What We Do

We offer a caring, friendly and practical service to people living in Gloucestershire, to help them life live to the full.

Relationships can’t be rushed or hurried. That’s why all of our visits are at least an hour long - it gives the time needed to chat, listen and develop a meaningful relationship.

Please see below for details of the services we offer. We are happy to discuss your requirements either over the telephone or face to face to ensure the befriending visits are as beneficial as possible.

Companionship

Building friendships and developing a connection with others is vitally important, particularly as we age. It is key to managing our emotional and mental well-being, which is why companionship is at the heart of everything we do, whether that means playing cards, doing a jigsaw puzzle together, or having a chat over a cup of tea.

Housework and Light Cleaning

Dusting, laundry, bed-changing, vacuuming, ironing, washing up - a clean home is a happy home, and we’re more than happy to help!

Our befrienders love to help in any way they can, but they aren’t cleaners and will need the use of a customer’s equipment for any household tasks.

Shopping

Our grocery shopping service is essential for many of our clients. We can shop on behalf of clients, or with them.

Trips Out

Befrienders have their own transport. This means they can take clients on local trips out. This might be to a local place of interest, to get some fresh air, or to look around the shops.

We can also arrange one-off trips, for example to a hospital appointment or to collect a prescription.

Other Services

We also have great relationships with trusted third-party companies. We can arrange help for a range of jobs for our clients - gardening, DIY handymen, hairdressing, computing help, and more!

 How It Works

Step 1: Contact us through a referral form, ringing us on 01452 447024 or by email at info@glosbefriending.co.uk

Step 2: We will conduct a face to face visit with the client (as well as a family member or social worker if desired) to discuss the client’s needs and how we can tailor the service accordingly.
Note: The initial meeting is free of charge. It’s a great opportunity to ask any questions, talk about interests and gauge personalities. This helps us match clients with the right befriender.

Step 3: Once we have agreed on a schedule your assigned befriender will begin their visits. Our hourly rate is £25.00, and a mileage charge to facilitate each visit applies depending on the location of the client (typically in the region of £4.00).

Step 4: It’s time to start building a friendship! As our clients will always see the same befriender, they’re able to build a long-lasting and meaningful friendship.

Befrienders are all enhanced DBS checked, and receive training in safeguarding and in working with people with dementia.

Please refer to our Terms and Conditions for the nitty-gritty details behind how the service works.
